Be a Wildflower

Orthodontic Emergencies

When an appliance breaks or an injury affects your mouth, start with the symptoms. Wildflower handles orthodontic treatment concerns; medical emergencies and tooth injuries may need a different provider first.

Know Where to Turn

When an Injury Needs Urgent Care

Do not wait for an orthodontic appointment, a text response, or the office to reopen if you are experiencing a medical emergency.

Contact an Emergency Dentist

A Tooth Is Knocked Out or Displaced

A knocked-out or severely displaced permanent tooth needs immediate attention from your general dentist or an emergency dental provider.

Do not delay urgent care while waiting for Wildflower to respond.

Seek Prompt Assessment

Severe Pain With Swelling or Fever

Severe pain with facial swelling or fever needs urgent medical or dental assessment. Do not assume these symptoms are caused by braces.

Wildflower Orthodontics does not provide general dental or emergency medical care.

After urgent care: Let us know so we can check any affected braces, aligners, or other orthodontic appliances. Do not pull on or try to reposition an appliance after a facial injury unless a treating provider or our team instructs you to do so.

Help With Your Treatment

Orthodontic Appliance Problems

For a concern related to your Wildflower treatment, contact our team so we can help you choose the next step.

Damaged Bracket

Let us know even if it does not hurt. We will decide whether it can wait until your next visit or needs an earlier repair.

Loose Appliance

Do not pull on or repeatedly move a loose band, expander, or other appliance. If it comes out completely, save it in a clean container and bring it to your visit. Do not reattach it yourself.

Aligner Concern

Call about an aligner that is lost, distorted, or no longer fits as expected. Do not change aligner stages without our guidance.

Wildflower Retainer

Patients who completed treatment here can call about a Wildflower retainer that is lost, cracked, or no longer fits. Do not force it into place.

Temporary comfort

Poking Wires and Broken Brackets

Cover an irritating wire or bracket with a small amount of orthodontic wax. Gishy Goo is another option for cushioning brackets or wires; follow the product’s instructions when applying it. These products provide temporary comfort and do not repair a broken appliance. If a poking wire or broken bracket is causing severe pain, call or text our office right away. Do not cut or remove a wire unless our team specifically instructs you to do so. For more temporary comfort tips, see our Braces Emergencies and Troubleshooting page.
