The Damon® System is a specific brand of self-ligating braces, rather than the name of the overall technology. Self-ligating braces use brackets with a built-in clip or sliding door to hold the archwire instead of the small elastic ties commonly used with traditional braces.
Without elastic ties securing the archwire, self-ligating brackets may make cleaning around the braces simpler and allow the wire to move more freely. Some adjustment appointments may also be shorter because elastic ties do not need to be removed and replaced. Treatment length, comfort, and appointment frequency still depend on each patient’s individual needs.
